Graduation Ceremony for Nursing and Midwifery students
On Monday 3rd February, the School hosted the 2014 graduation ceremony for nursing and midwifery students at the Barbican centre, London.
Professor Helen McCutcheon, Head of School, was joined by Professor Sir Rick Trainor, College Principal as well as many staff from across the School, to recognise, congratulate and celebrate nearly 400 new graduates.
Sir Rick opened the ceremony with a speech that listed the many achievements the School has seen over the past year.
Special mention was given to high achieving students, including Alice McGee, who was nominated employee of the month during her placement in A & E: the first time that this award had been given to a student. The Principal also celebrated the success of Kevin Valton, who was selected to take part in the 2013 National Junior Leadership Academy; Matthew Alders, who took part in the television programme 24 hours in A&E in November; Siobhan Rhind-Mullen, who achieved a King's Leadership award, and Lisa Kenney, who was Highly Commended in the 2013 Undergraduate Awards in the Nursing & Midwifery category, recognising her as within the top 10 per cent of her field.
The Principal went on to recognise the hard work and dedication of the Staff of the School and made special mention of Dr Julia Philippou, Lecturer in the Department of Adult Nursing, who received an award for excellence in teaching later in the ceremony. In addition, Professor Steve Tee, Associate Dean, Education, was introduced to the College at the ceremony as a new Professor at the School. Steve is pictured below shaking the hand of Dr Angela Dean, a Lay member of the College Council.
