New Masters in Clinical Research

The Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery has successfully led a bid to provide a new Masters in Clinical Research Programme, funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) at the Department of Health.

Professor Alison Metcalfe, Associate Dean for Research at the School, said:

“It is fantastic that the School has been successful in leading this bid on behalf of King’s College London, to run a Clinical MRes Programme for developing the research careers of nurses, midwives and Allied Health Professionals. We are delighted that King’s has been awarded not only the 10 fellowships we applied for but an additional two places.”

The NIHR award will fund 12 places each year for three years and will cover the successful applicants’ salary and fees.

Professor Metcalfe continued:

“The MRes fellowship programme will provide nurses, midwives and other healthcare professionals with salary and course fees to allow them to take part in exciting opportunities to gain experience and knowledge in carrying out clinical research to improve patient care. The course also offers King’s the opportunity to develop excellent clinical researchers for the future, who will be able to make a real impact on healthcare.”

The course will begin from September 2013. Further details and application procedures will be available shortly.
