Professor Honoured by American Academy of Nursing

Professor Ian Norman, Deputy Head of the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery at King’s College London, has been awarded a prestigious Fellowship of the American Academy of Nursing, for services to mental health nursing and nursing scholarship.

This follows Professor Norman’s Fellowship of the UK Royal College of Nursing in 2009, and his Fellowship of the European Academy of Nursing Science.  

Professor Norman commented:

‘Relatively few nurses based outside the USA are awarded a Fellowship by the American Academy and I feel honoured to be amongst these. Such awards shows that the Academy is aware of developments in nursing worldwide, rather than simply in the US, and in my own case perhaps demonstrates its support for senior academic nurses who are also practicing clinicians, of whom there are relatively few in the UK.’

Ian Norman is a qualified mental health nurse, general nurse and learning disability nurse and a social worker. He maintains his clinical practice through an Honorary appointment as a CBT Psychotherapist within South London & Maudsley NHS Trust, and is also the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Nursing Studies, one of the leading academic nursing journals in the world.
