Innovation Fellow appointed
As part of the College-wide network of Innovation Fellows, tutor Sheryl Gettings from the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery at King’s has been appointed as the School’s first Innovation Fellow. Sheryl’s role aims to raise the profile of innovation in the School and facilitate the mobilisation of innovative ideas to real-world application.
Prior to joining the College, in her role as Clinical Nurse Specialist at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, Sheryl spearheaded innovative means of facilitating healthcare delivery. For example, research undertaken for her MSc Applied Psychology successfully piloted the use of audio-conferencing to facilitate sibling support groups enabling children to overcome geographical barriers to accessing therapeutic interventions.
Sheryl spoke of her appointment as Innovation Fellow: ‘Whether innovative projects involve creating new products to improve patient care, targeting innovative teaching and healthcare practices such that their effectiveness is optimised, the potential for increasing the impact of our work is vast. It is very exciting to take part in the process of academics and researchers discovering new ways to meet the changing needs of society.’
