Jelf Medal honour for Nursing student
On Tuesday 19 January BSc Nursing Studies (Adult) student Angelina Kennedy was awarded the Jelf Medal for the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery. This is the highest honour the College can bestow on students.
Angelina received the medal in front of her family and friends at the School of Nursing & Midwifery graduation ceremony held at The Barbican.
Angelina demonstrated a sound academic record throughout her studies and was one of the first students at the School to participate in student exchange programme with the University of Pennsylvania, where she was described as 'an outstanding student and a credit to the College and the profession of nursing'. She has been unstintingly generous with her time in providing support and guidance to further cohorts of exchange students as well as representing the School at a number of events, including selection days and hosting sessions for visiting international student and staff groups.
One Jelf Medal is awarded to a student in each of the Schools of Arts & Humanities, Biomedical & Health Sciences, Law, Nursing & Midwifery, Social Sciences & Public Policy, Medicine, Dentistry and Psychiatry. Two medals are awarded to the School of Physical Sciences & Engineering. The students chosen are those who, in the view of the Principal, have most distinguished themselves during their undergraduate course in the College.
The Jelf Medal was created in honour of Rev Richard Jelf DD who retired from the role of Principal of the College in 1868 after holding this office for 24 years. The Medal commemorates his services to the College.
