Health minister Ann Keen speaks at Nightingale Breakfast
Professor Ann Keen MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary for Health at the Department of Health, spoke at the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery’s Nightingale Breakfast series on Tuesday 16 March.
Ms Keen’s speech centred on the future of nursing and midwifery. Ms Keen is the Chair of the Prime Minister’s Commission on the Future of Nursing and Midwifery in England which recently presented its report, ‘Front line care’, to PM Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street on 2 March 2010.
The report was a culmination of a year-long review during which nurses, midwives, members of the public and other stakeholders shared their views on the future of the professions. Among the reports recommendations are that nurses and midwives must renew their pledge to society to deliver high quality, compassionate care – and must be better supported to do so by their employers.
The Nightingale Breakfast is part of the School’s Nightingale Series, an event series intended to provide valuable fora for presentations, discussion and debate, and continue to foster valuable relationships with you, our guests, trusts, health organisations and members of our alumni.
