James Lee co-edits major Trusts work 'Modern Equity'

Mr James Lee, Senior Lecturer in Private Law at The Dickson Poon School of Law, has co-edited the 20th edition of the leading textbook Hanbury & Martin: Modern Equity. With Jamie Glister from the University of Sydney. James has succeeded Dr Jill Martin, who edited the book for the previous 30 years and also formerly worked at King's.

The book was first published in 1935 by HG Hanbury, who went on to become the Vinerian Professor of English Law at the University of Oxford.

The 20th edition has been significantly revised. It has been restructured to reflect the way in which in Trusts modules are now taught. In the light of many developments in the law since the previous edition in 2012, including several key United Kingdom Supreme Court decisions, the book has also been comprehensively updated.

James said, 'It was an honour for us to be invited to take over stewardship of Modern Equity. I used the 16th edition of Hanbury & Martin as a student and it is humbling now to have the responsibility for the next generation of students. The process of writing the book was challenging but fascinating. It has been great to work with my co-editor Jamie Glister, and I am very grateful to him for his insights and collaborative spirit.'

The book has been published by Sweet & Maxwell in their authoritative Classics Series.

The Editors' Preface is available as a sample chapter on the Sweet & Maxwell website.

James Lee joined The Dickson Poon School of Law in September 2014. He has written widely on judicial reasoning and many aspects of private law, principally the law of obligations.
