Magna Carta Uncovered with Lord Judge

Lord Judge lectures in the Great Hall at King's College London

The Dickson Poon School of Law was delighted to host a lecture by former Lord Chief Justice and Dickson Poon Distinguished Visitor and Visiting Professor, Lord Judge, on 12 February marking the 800th anniversary of the grant at Runnymede of Magna Carta.

The lecture coincided with the recent publication of Magna Carta Uncovered- s new book on the story of the Magna Carta co-authored by Lord Judge and Mr Anthony Arlidge QC.

In Magna Carta Uncovered, Lord Judge and Anthony Arlidge QC bring their wide legal experience and forensic skills to uncover the original meaning of the liberties enshrined in Magna Carta, and to trace their development in later centuries up to the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America. By providing that the powers of the King were not unlimited, the Charter was groundbreaking, yet it was also a conservative document, following the form of Anglo-Saxon charters and seeking to return government to the ways of the Norman kings.
