Dr Sarah Cooper participates in "Translocations"
Translocations is part of the Knowledge Producers programme, developed by the Cultural Institute at King's, to support innovative collaborations between academics and cultural practitioners.
For this recent event, choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh presented one of her works, Bruise Blood, to six academics chosen for their professional interest in the human body, and asked them to comment on it from their specialist perspective.
These personal, insightful and unusual writings became the scripts for six highly individual film portraits which revealed the academic, their work and dance in a new light. Each film, shot in locations in and around King's, drew attention to unexpected commonalities, connecting ideas across seemingly wide gulfs. Uniting them is the question of how we make sense of and portray the human body – in dance, in science, in a robot-led future and through the lens.
At the recent launch event on 21 March 2014, Shobana Jeyasingh unveiled the films and appeared in conversation with her academic collaborators, including Dr Sarah Cooper, Head of Department of Film Studies.
