Into the Dragon's Den

Embodied knowledge transforms the choreography of Teeth Show.

On Sunday 20 November, three members of the Dental Institute took part in the latest iteration of Natasha Davis' 'Teeth Show' as part of the MOUTHY collaboration with Science Gallery.

Professor Abigail Tucker, Dr Flora Smyth Zahra and 4th year dental student Sunmeet Kandari all took part in the performance and engaged in the public Q&A afterwards. The professionals and public were fascinated by the precision and choreography of the scientific and clinical hands whilst the the amateur performers experienced the direction and support afforded to a different type of professional team working. Held at the warehouse where Dragons Den is filmed, the backdrop provided the perfect setting for the performance.

Science Gallery director Daniel Glaser said it was a great finale to the MOUTHY season. Dr Zahra commented: "This  collaboration was a rewarding opportunity for public engagement and appeared to make the tacit explicit to those that watched. This novel performance approach may also provide useful teaching and educational research material which I look forward to exploring further as part of the 2017 Clinical Humanities course."
