Dental Institute Academic Promotions

With great delight I can now inform you that all of the Dental Institute candidates for promotion were approved.  In this round, this includes:

  • Promotion to Professor:

    • Escudier MichaelMichael Escudier, from the Mucosal and Salivary Research Group, has been promoted through the Education track.  Through his passion around assessment and evaluation, Michael has been hugely instrumental in improving our NSS scores as well as setting nation guidelines for this critical aspect of education.  In his clinical activity, his work has made significant improvements in outcomes for patients with salivary gland disease. 

    • J-NaglikJulian Naglik, from the Mucosal and Salivary Research Group, has been promoted through the research track.    Julian’s energetic and productive research sets the stage for his success as an excellent teacher.  Among many accomplishments, is recent acceptance of his latest manuscript in Nature. 

  • Promotion to Reader:

    • Cook RJ photoRichard Cook, from the Tissue Engineering and Biophotonics Group, has been promoted to Reader through the education and research pathway.  Richard balances his education and research activities with exceptionally productive collaboration and ability to translate research into products and practice. He is unquestionably one of our greatest role models for integrating innovation and impact into our success.

    • Rebecca MoazzezRebecca Moazzez, from the Mucosal and Salivary Research Group and Director of the Oral Clinical Research Unit, has been promoted through the education and research track.  Rebecca attacks everything she does with gusto, with remarkable success in whatever she does.  Among her many accomplishments is her remarkable building the scale and reputation of the OCRU.

    • rford1612David Radford, from the Education Group, has been promoted on the education track.   David’s devotion to teaching at Portsmouth has earned him seemingly unending praise.    This was further underlined by his 2015 King’s Award for the most Outstanding Contribution to Student Experience.


  • Promotion to Honorary Reader:

    • Dirk BisterDirk Bister, a GSTT employee, has been promoted through the Clinical Excellence and Eminence Track.   Dirk is passionate about integrating research into an already demanding teaching and clinical role, ensuring that orthodontic specialty students are acutely aware of the modernisation that will be inevitable through their clinical lifetimes.   Often, this research is supported from his own private practice income, reflecting the depth of his commitment. 

 

Special thanks to the internal review committee for the mentoring and suggestions that they provide each of our candidates.   Since its inception, 100% of the candidates recommended by the internal panel, have been successful at the University level.
