BYBO short blended programmes programmes launched

Recently King's College London announced that the Dental Institute and the BYBO Dental Group, one of the largest dental providers in China, would enter into a partnership that would see collaboration on clinical activities, staff exchange, transfer of clinical expertise and protocols, and continuing professional education. Today the first short blended programmes go live marking a landmark in the relationship.

Thanks to brilliant gymnastics by Jonathan San Diego, head of the Information and Technology Enhanced Learning Hub (iTEL) to assure the IT interface was working properly, and the volunteer effort by a number of BDS Mandarin-speaking students, the BYBO staff enrolled in the course will be able to have a rich blend of information in both English and Mandarin from today.  This first course, Aesthetics:  Management of Tooth Wear and Occlusal Change will be followed with a course in mid-August of Aesthetics:  Direct and Indirect Solutions.

In addition to the short blended programmes, face-to-face lectures in various Chinese sites were launched in June and will continue until the end of the calendar year. These programmes are bringing latest information to BYBO.  These include presentations by Raman Bedi on leadership training and paediatric dentistry, Martyn Cobourne and Gavin Mack on orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning, Michael Fenlon on prosthodontics, Mark Ide and Francis Hughes on periodontology, Marie Therese Hosey and Sanjeev Sood on paediatric dentistry, and Van Thompson on patient-centred research, clinical recommendations for composite resin restorations, and all-ceramic restorations.  Brian Miller, Barry Quinn and Bill Sharpling are also involved in the delivery of the distance / blended learning activities that were launched today.

Together, these initiatives further King’s already remarkable international reach – and bring new resources to the Dental Institute to fund new initiatives.  We soon will be negotiating a second year of activities and look forward to continuing our ever strengthening relationship.
