Royster Global Fellows Programme cements King's partnership with UNC Chapel Hill

King's College London and US partner the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) have launched a joint programme for PhD students, the Royster Global Fellows Programme.
Launched on 15 March 2017 at King's, the programme will see 11 King’s PhD students from four faculties travel to UNC’s campus this July for the inaugural Royster Global Fellows meeting. Over the coming months, fellows from King’s and UNC will work collaboratively to develop a workshop which will focus on ‘the making of knowledge in the 21st century’.
First for Royster programme
The Royster Society of Fellows programme has been offered at UNC for many years, and this is the first time it has been extended to engage graduate students from an international partner.
Faculty of Arts & Humanities Vice-Dean Professor Raphael Woolf is the Royster programme lead at King's. He said: "King’s engagement in this prestigious program represents a new stage of progress for the King’s-UNC relationship. Building on many years of successful joint graduate workshops, the Royster Global Fellows program provides an innovative opportunity for PhD students at both our institutions to transcend disciplinary boundaries and consider fundamental questions about the role of knowledge in the 21st century."
Bob Miles, Associate Dean of Study Abroad and International Exchanges in the College of Arts and Sciences at UNC Chapel Hill, was present for the launch and added: "UNC is very excited to welcome the first cohort of King’s Royster Global Fellows to our campus in July. The Royster Global Fellows program is an extension of our prevailing close relationship and will be a unique opportunity to work with peers across the Atlantic to shape the agenda of discussions around knowledge."
Next steps in a longstanding partnership
King's and UNC Chapel Hill have a number of other partnership ventures, including the newly-launched King's Partnership Pathway programme, offering UNC undergraduates the opportunity to pursue a one-year master’s degree at King’s upon graduation from UNC. Academics have also taken part in a Faculty exchange, and a video sharing their experiences can be seen here:
