Every day we see articles in the media about artificial intelligence: some are optimistic, some pessimistic, and some complain about the hype! In this talk I will review some of the history of the field and in particular the shift in approach that has caused much of the recent wave of excitement.

As the West is consumed by conspiracy theories about Russia, Ilya Yablokov's new book, Fortress Russia, is the first-ever study of Russian conspiracy theories in the post-Soviet period. It explores how the West is portrayed in these conspiracy theories and how this image is used to create public support for the Kremlin.
