About Us
King’s Academy serves as the education ‘Think Tank’ for the University, focusing on strategic educational priorities, fostering a supportive and progressive academic culture and advancing teaching and learning practices. Our goal is to drive continuous improvement in education, to empower educators at all career stages and enhance the student experience at King’s.
Working in partnership with faculties, staff, students and external collaborators, we support all colleagues involved in designing and delivering education - from early career educators to experienced faculty staff and those in leadership roles. Through structured and tailored professional development, we provide teaching and learning guidance, mentoring and professional recognition. We also facilitate funding for educational innovation, support scholarly activity and promote evidence-informed teaching and assessment practices.
By offering an wide range of opporutunities, events, workshops, resources, mentoring and collaborative networks, we help educators refine their practice while shaping institutional strategies. Rooted in Vision 2029, King’s Academy remains committed to fostering innovation, inclusivity and plays a crucial role in shaping and supporting education across the University.
Strategic Aims
To support new and experienced colleagues looking to develop their careers in education leadership roles and those looking to grow their influence and impact through education innovation, delivery, research and scholarship.
To provide training and mentorship, in particular to early career faculty and staff, with an emphasis on promoting cultures of continuous enhancement in teaching and learning.
To increase institutional engagement by raising the profile of King’s Academy and the team’s engagement in scholarly activities.
To provide effective and relevant professional development activities through a framework that enables educators to develop, progress and be recognised for their learning and teaching from early career to leadership.
To enable a sustained and supportive culture for educators to explore teaching and learning in their disciplines and develop a scholarly approach which reflects developments in modalities, media and methodologies.
To support educators to develop evidence- and evaluation-informed practice, contributing and responding to student learning and the King’s Education Strategy.
To establish partnerships with other universities and educational institutions to offer professional and development opportunities.
To develop a portfolio of opportunities, events and dissemination channels including funded activity and student collaborations.
To foster adaptability to changing educational and employment landscapes by supporting the evolution of adaptable policy and flexible assessment-centred programme design that is responsive to global, national, sector and technological changes.
To support and promote evidence-based approaches to programme and assessment design at macro (Discipline/ Programme), meso (Module) and micro (individual) level, facilitating connections between key stakeholders and enabling academic and professional services colleagues to exploit existing and new systems and approaches.
To support and disseminate the development and implementation of sustainable, scalable and innovative assessment practices that focus on tackling issues of over-assessment, lack of diversity, issues of authenticity and validity as well as improving feedback practices, engagement and literacy.
