Module description
What is the module about?
Strategic Management of Technological Innovation provides students with deeper insight regarding the influence of technological innovation on the competitive advantage of firms. The module will initially discuss the theories of technology evolution and technology diffusion. Building on these foundations, the module will then introduce the main conceptual tools that help interpret the strategies, opportunities and constraints faced by different firms in response to technological change. How firms manage new product development and create value for their customers, will be central themes of this module. Recent trends in the strategic management of technological innovation will be discussed, such as the expansion of as-a-service offerings and the rise of platform ecosystems. The strategic implications of digital technologies at industry and firm level will also be analysed, drawing on examples of contemporary technologies such as Could Computing, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things.
