Module description
Syllabus:
Rigorous treatment of continuity, differentiation and Riemann integral for functions of one variable.
Prerequisites:
4CCM111a Calculus I (or equivalent background)
4CCM115a Sequences and Series (or equivalent background)
Assessment details
Written examination
Exercises or quizzes will be set each week to be handed in the following week. These problems will be discussed in the tutorials and solutions will be available.
Educational aims & objectives
The aim of the module is to provide rigorous theoretical foundation for key concepts appearing in Analysis: open sets, closed sets, continuous maps, continuity, differentiability, Riemann integral. This is done in the context of sets on the real line and of functions of one variable.
Learning outcomes
Be able to perform simple theoretical analysis involving functions of one real variable (continuity, differentiation, integration).
Teaching pattern
Three hours of lectures and one hour of tutorial per week throughout the term
