Module description
Syllabus:
Linear models, regression analysis, analysis of variance, applications in various fields. Using a specialised statistical software package to analyse linear models.
Prerequisites:
Before taking this module you must take 5CCM241A or 6CCM241B.
Cannot take with 6CCM242B Statistical Modelling
Assessment details
Written examination and data analysis project.
Educational aims & objectives
This module introduces students to the theory, methods and applications of linear models. The theory of the general linear model will be introduced, with an emphasis on widely used methods such as regression analysis, analysis of variance, etc. Applications in various fields will be used to give students experience of applying the methods using a specialised statistical software package to analyse linear models.
Learning outcomes
Be able to carry out regression analysis and interpret the results. Be able to fit a model to data and comment on the adequacy of the model. Be able to use a statistical software package to analyse real world data. Achieve these outcomes with a thoroughness and depth of understanding consistent with the level 6 standard.
Teaching pattern
3 hours of lectures per week with 1 hour of tutorial or practical lab (in alternating weeks)
