Module description
What is the module about?
This module introduces students to theories and practices involved in the management of diversity and inclusion and aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to build and sustain diverse and inclusive workplaces. In the first half of the module, we explore the sociological and psychological theories that underpin the notions of ‘diversity’ and ‘inclusion’.
We focus on key dimensions of inequality including race, age, disability, gender and sex and situate this discussion within the wider context of intersectionality. In the second half of the module, we move on to explore organisational policies, practices, leadership styles, behaviours and cultures that serve to promote or, conversely, inhibit, diversity and inclusion. Assessment is via individual coursework assignment and a group project.
Who should do this module?
This module is aimed at students who wish to further their knowledge and understanding of equality and inclusion in the contemporary workplace, as well as those who aspire to become inclusive leaders. We expect students to take an active part in tutorial discussions and debates, and to be active members of their student project group.
