This module will give students an introduction to managing a wide range of cultural projects. It will expose students to concept development, marketing, fundraising and logistics specific to different cultural industries. Students will use the module to develop their own cultural project, applying ideas from the lecture topics directly to their concept. The 'Cultural Project' will then be submitted for assessment.
Coursework weighted at 100% - 3,000-word Cultural Project Proposal
This module aims to:
Develop students' understanding of key issues in cultural management across a number of cultural sectors
Introduce students to key processes in project management in the cultural and creative industries
Equip students with key skills including concept development, budget management and other key principles of good project management
Prepare students to tackle challenges in the sector across a wide range of circumstances from working inside organisations, to developing freelance projects
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to demonstrate their ability to:
Understand the complexity of project management in the cultural sector
Recognise and understand key challenges, and mechanisms to overcome them whilst managing cultural projects
Evaluate and analyse what defines the successful implementation of cultural projects
Develop critical, conceptual and practical skills necessary for managing cultural projects
Ten one-hour lectures and ten one-hour seminars
