Module description
This module responds to key contemporary events within the creative industries. It will present cutting-edge research that analyses current issues within its specific cultural, social and political contexts e.g. decolonisation, value, entrepreneurship, digitisation, labour, globalisation, Brexit and Covid. The module provides students with the building blocks to generate their critical analyses of the sector, and the capacity to apply theory to practice and real-world case studies. The assignment encourages advanced research skills, which will be transferable to the BA dissertation in their final year and in the contemporary workplace.

Educational aims & objectives
This module aims to:
- Develop critical perspectives on contemporary issues that impact on the creative industries;
- Explore a range of current events alongside theoretical frameworks that allow students to develop a keen awareness;
- Inform students as future professionals in the creative industries through building the knowledge about emerging debates;
- Using case studies, critically engage with key issues in the creative sector and their social, political and economic significance;
- Strengthen research, written and verbal communication experiences as transferable skills necessary in the contemporary workplace.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to demonstrate their ability to:
- Analyse major issues impacting on the creative industries;
- Develop a keen awareness of the context, theoretical debates and practices within the creative economy;
- Understand and critically engage with key debates in the creative sector and their social, political and economic significance;
- Develop independent research skills transferable to the workplace;
