Module description

Aims and Learning Outcomes

This module aims to provide an introduction to the main components of the software development process and techniques to enhance its quality. Students will develop their practical understanding and appreciation of frameworks for the Software Development Process by considering various case studies.

On successful completion of this module, students will:

  • Describe and apply foundational concepts of software engineering and the main issues on the development of software;
  • Analyse and choose a suitable life-cycle model for a software development project;
  • Explain the issues involved in planning and organisation of one-person and simple group projects;
  • Construct and analyse use simple models in the Unified Modeling Language (UML), and construct tests in the development of software systems;
  • Describe social, economic, environmental, commercial, safety (trustworthiness), professional, ethical and equality, inclusion and diversity (EDI) issues involved in the development and utilisation of software.
