Module description

This module is designed for participants who want to become teachers of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or are already working in EAP. The design is underpinned by the BALEAP (British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes) Competency Framework for Teachers of English for Academic Purposes (teap-competency-framework.pdf). The module addresses the framework’s areas of Academic Practice, EAP student needs and Curriculum development..

The module gives participants an opportunity to develop an understanding of the language and teaching issues that are central to EAP programmes. It draws on a range of important theoretical and descriptive frameworks in building an account of how best we can help EAP students - in particular genre analysis and corpus linguistics. It also give practical insights into how to use this understanding in preparing practical courses for students studying in English.
