Module description
This module introduces students to the full range of the material and visual culture of the ancient world. Module 4AACAA1B a one-semester version of module 4AACAA01, and takes place in Semester 2. It focuses on the ancient Roman world.
Students are introduced to the different perspectives and methods of both archaeologists and art historians in interpreting material remains and visual images. The module combines close study of individual pieces of evidence with an evaluation of how they illuminate the societies, cultures, institutions and economies of classical antiquity. The module draws heavily from the extraordinary collections in London, particularly the British Museum.
Full year students must take the full year version of this module: 4AACAA01 Art and Archaeology of Greece and Rome.
