In this wide-ranging conversation, David Loyn will draw on accounts by those who led the war through the hardest years of combat, including Generals David Petraeus, Stanley McChrystal, Joe Dunford and John Allen. He will also discuss the consequences of the US and NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan, and the implications for the region and international security.

About the speaker 

David Loyn, is a Senior Visiting Research Fellow in the Department of War Studies. Previously, he was an award-winning foreign correspondent for the BBC and is an authority on Afghanistan – a country he has visited every year since 1994. In 2017, he worked for a year as an adviser in the office of the Afghan president, Ashraf Ghani.
